I’ve met Volker in Germany once during Photokina and he’s a nice guy. It’s great to see his article on the Rolleiflex 6000 system which is very detailed, but omits a few things about lenses he hasn’t used. The 90mm APO macro lens by Schneider, the 180/2.8 Schneider, and the 60mm Schneider Curtagon are all missing from his report and personally I think these lenses are some of the jewels of that system. If he liked the 150mm SonnarRead more

“The Russian Portrait Monster”: Helios 40-2 1.5/85 | hispan’s photoblog
Today I’d like to share a really great photo blog that I discovered while researching Russian lenses. The blog started and run by Krisztián Horváth with input from others is really excellent as are his photos. I’m linking to an article about the Zenit Helios lenses since I’m working with the new restructured Krasnogorsky Zavod PJSC (Zenit KMZ) to import new lenses and cameras for resale in the US via Zenit Lenses US. Zeiss Factory Tour – 51 page pdf by Jon Fauer and Film and Digital Times
If you have an interest in Zeiss Optics then this downloadable pdf document will fascinate you. I don’t think I’ve ever seen such a thorough and detailed tour report as this for any company. This interview with Dr. Scherle and the whole tour report is cinema centric but very interesting indeed. Zeiss Factory Tour 2015 by Jon Fauer and published on the Film and Digital TimesRead more
How the Fujifilm X-Pro2 Was Designed for ‘Decisive Usability’
I found this excellent article, by Aage Granasson, on the Fuji X-Pro2 really interesting because it went deep into the Fuji design criteria or design ethos. I own a Fuji GX 680III and also have had some of the Fuji medium format compact cameras and do agree with the author about those purpose built cameras from Fuji. Well worth the read… Source: How the Fujifilm X-Pro2 Was Designed for ‘Decisive Usability’Read more
Perception and Imaging Photography – A Way of Seeing by Zakia
Perception and Imaging: Photograph – A Way of Seeing by Richard Zakia This is one of the best books I’ve read which deals with how the human mind perceives imagery. It’s absolutely fantastic! After reading even just the first chapters, I feel I have greatly improved both my knowledge of how to construct powerful images, and my understanding of how viewers might likely interpret my images. This book is a must for anyone serious about improving their photography!Read more
Wehman 8×10 camera
I recently acquired a Wehman 8×10 Field Camera second hand from Laura C. and it’s really an amazingly light and sturdy camera that folds up into itself and is easily carried into the field. Sadly these are no longer in production, but you can view them and the instructions and other details on Mr. Wehman’s site. He’s also a talented photographer and has some of his work up in galleries that you should check out too. The WehmanRead more
