I’m lucky, I live in walking distance to one of the largest public darkrooms in the country, the Harvey Milk Photo Center. It’s got something like 45 enlarger bays in their darkroom, a film processing area, a digital lab, and some class rooms. I just came back from printing in the darkroom tonight and wondered where I might go if I wasn’t in San Francisco.
A quick google pulled up Local Darkroom. It’s a web tool that allows you to register or search for public and private darkrooms around the globe. Pretty cool right? Now we just need people to register their places. I just sent them an e-mail to let them know about the San Francisco darkrooms.
Where do you go to develop and print your film?
In San Francisco:
- Harvey Milk Photo Center – Public membership based darkroom, film processing, digital lab, classes and workshops
- Rayco Photo Center – Comprehensive private fee based facility with classes and a gallery
